Calvin U. Smith third graders recently participated in a great project to put a smile on the faces of some of our community members!
"Write a Letter to an Elder Day" was organized by former CUS parent and Director of Activities at Brookdale Senior Center Melanie Neilson, who asked teachers Mrs. Schoonover and Mrs. Gillette if their students would write letters to the people living in the facility. It was an enthusiastic “yes” and the activity even fit into the next lessons for students, Making a Difference and Communities.
Mrs. Schoonover said, “It was so heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as I explained what the students did for them. This was also extremely rewarding for the students to give back to our community and seek to understand a different way of living that their elders experience.” #TogetherWeSoar #CommunityPartnership #CalvinUSmith
