Manufacturing Day

“As our students look to the future, it is critical that we, as a community, introduce and reinforce the importance and need for careers in manufacturing,” says Corning-Painted Post Area School District Superintendent Michelle Caulfield.

To raise awareness and highlight careers in manufacturing, the school district has partnered with the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency and several local manufacturers in the county  to showcase modern manufacturing to 8th grade students at CPP Middle School. On Friday, November 4th, the students will experience live demonstrations and video presentations of the many job opportunities available.

Ms. Caulfield says, “Our partnerships with the IDA and local businesses will increase the chances that our students live locally and work locally. Our CPP theme this year is ‘Together as One’ and this event shows how business and education can work together as one to support our students and community.”

Participating companies include:

·        Instant Brands

·        Alstom

·        Siemens Energy

·        Gunlocke

·        BelGioioso (Formerly Upstate Niagara Cooperative, Inc.)

·        Corning Incorporated

The career profile videos are available on the Steuben County IDA website – https://steubencountyida.com/news-and-announcements/.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers, the average manufacturing salary in the United States is $92,832 and there will be more than 4 million positions open over the next ten years.

“Manufacturing accounts for about 12% of the total jobs in Steuben County, representing a major part of the economy,” says Steuben County IDA Executive Director Jamie Johnson.  “Like many areas of the country, our companies are struggling to fill open positions to grow and expand their operations. This event is designed to show students, parents, and the community that modern manufacturing is a vibrant, vital industry that can provide a long-term career path for students.”
