Based on the understanding that the traditional high school environment does not meet the needs of all students, the High School Learning Center (HSLC) was designed for capable yet disconnected learners. The mission of the HSLC is to provide academic and community-based experiences in a nurturing environment that re-engages and connects students from the Corning-Painted Post (CPP) School District who are seeking a fresh start. The goal of the HSLC is to help students develop academically, personally, and vocationally—building the skills necessary to graduate with a New York State Regents diploma and to create and implement a plan for their future success.
To date, more than 150 local and regional businesses have partnered with the HSLC to offer students valuable workplace, volunteer, and community art experiences. These partners include the Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, Finger Lakes Unique, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, The Corning Museum of Glass, The Rockwell Museum, the Southeast Steuben County Library, Corning Children’s Center, the Corning-Painted Post School District, Corning Community College, the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Corning Community Impact and Investment, The Triangle Fund, Corning Rotary International, Wegmans Food Markets, 171 Cedar Arts Center, The Salvation Army, and many more.
