Dear Corning-Painted Post Parents, Guardians and students,
As a C-PP community, we are committed to supporting our students, parents and families during this unprecedented time of extended school closure and to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As we enter Phase 3: Continuity and Assessment, beginning May 18th, our students will continue to have opportunities to gain meaningful exposure and benefit from the instructional materials and home skill plans.
The materials that went home for Phase 1 were intended to help support skill retention for your child as well as provide individualized home-based skill plans from related service providers. Additionally, teachers and related service providers were committed to establishing communication pathways to ensure a home-school connection. This allowed families and staff to continue to support the implementation of your child's individualized education program. During Phase 2, instructional materials also provided opportunity for new instruction and related services, to the greatest extent possible.
As we enter Phase 3: Continuity and Assessment, staff will continue to provide online and packet-based instruction, along with opportunities for students to improve their grades. Please refer to the letters from our Assistant Superintendents for Instruction for specifics relative to grading opportunities and assignments. Speaking on behalf of our teachers and providers, we have appreciated the many photos and video clips submitted of your children doing their work and engaging in their virtual learning experiences.

Question and Answers for Parents of Students with Disabilities
Q: How will families be involved in meetings scheduled for students with special needs during this extended dismissal?
CSE/CPSE meetings are being scheduled to continue in a timely manner. At this time, all meetings will be held via conference call or Google Meet. You will receive a letter and phone call to confirm meeting dates and times. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your CSE Chairperson.
During a school closure, the District remains responsible for the free appropriate public education (FAPE) of students eligible for special education services with an individualized education program (IEP). Please note: If a closure causes educational services for all students to pause, then the school/district is generally not required to provide services to the affected students eligible for special education services during that same period of time.
Following the extended closure, we will review how the closure impacted the delivery of special education and related services to students eligible for special education services. As appropriate to an individual student with a disability, the IEP team would be required to make an individualized determination as to whether compensatory services are needed.
Q: How will the District handle potential upcoming evaluations?
If the evaluation of a student requires face-to-face assessment or observation, the evaluation would need to be delayed until school reopens. Evaluations and re-evaluations that do not require face-to-face assessments or observations may take place while schools are closed, so long as a student’s parent or legal guardian provides consent.
Q: What will be the mode of communication for families of students with special needs?
The teachers and related service providers will continue to communicate on a weekly basis. This communication will take place in a number of ways such as: e-mail, phone calls, videos posted to Google classrooms, use of Google Meet.
Q: Will there be opportunity for Teletherapy
For both preschool and school-age students, we are presently delivering Teletherapy using the telephone and Google platforms. If you have any questions about Teletherapy, please reach out to your providers, teachers or CSE Chairperson to discuss this service delivery.
Q: Will there be an Extended School Year (ESY) program this summer?
Presently, the ESY dates are July 6, 2020-August 14, 2020. We are awaiting the necessary updates from the New York State Governor's Office relative face-to-face or virtual summer program for our students who qualify for Extended School Year services.
