A wide variety of careers were represented at the annual CPPHS Sophomore Career Day, held at Corning Community College on January 14th. It was organized by the Career Development Council, Corning-Painted Post Area School District and Corning Community College. The program was also sponsored in part by the Corning Foundation.
Out of nearly 30 career choices students could learn about, each student chose three, 30-minute sessions to attend over the course of the morning. Included were architecture, auto technology, business communications, business ownership, computer science, education, engineering, forensics, heavy equipment, law enforcement, military, nursing, physician, sports management and many more.
“We are grateful to the many presenters from across our community, for sharing their knowledge, experience and guidance with the students,” said Sue Strack, GST BOCES Career Education Resource Specialist and program co-coordinator.
Cindy Dubots, GST BOCES Career Program Specialist and program co-coordinator, added, “A goal is to provide a wide variety of career choices at Career Day, so students can explore the many opportunities that await. Also, the presentations are designed to be interactive and we encourage the students to ask questions. Hearing right from the people in careers they are interested in, is a valuable resource for the students.”
