As the eligibility requirements open up for the COVID vaccination, we will have members of our student high school community that will begin receiving the COVID vaccination. Steuben County Public Health has provided us with guidelines that we must follow in regards to in-person school and before/after school activity attendance if a student develops side effects from the COVID vaccination.
If a student develops any one of the eleven COVID symptoms listed below within 48 hours of receiving the COVID vaccination, please contact the High School Health Office at 607-654-2784 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please report all student side effects, even if the student is attending school remotely or receives the vaccine on their virtual hybrid days.
• Fever or chills
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Muscle or body aches
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
We will be following Steuben County guidelines regarding side effects: one category provides 48 hours of recovery and one category requires seeing a doctor or getting a COVID test. One of the high school nurses or the head nurse will speak with a parent/guardian and ask a series of questions to determine which category each student falls in to and will review the process required for the student to return to school and before/after school activities.
In an effort to help students return to school and before/after school activities as quickly as possible, a nurse will be available every day of the week per the schedule below. Please note, that if you do not get in touch with a nurse during these established hours, the nurse will follow-up with you the following day.
Monday through Friday – 8 am – 3pm, by phone or email
Saturday and Sunday – 8 am - 10 am by email only
