Parent Newsletter Article for 5th to 6th Transition
Are You Ready for Your 5th Grader to Transition to Middle School?
We have the following plan in place to help ease your mind.
The students will participate in a presentation from middle school foreign language and music teachers on March 4th (Carder, Smith, Severn) or March 5th (EV< Gregg, Winfield). Each group of middle school teachers will spend ½ hour sharing their curriculum and learning opportunities. Parents will receive an informational brochure during their spring parent-teacher conference. A follow-up choice selection sheet will be sent home with the students on March 20th to be returned to their teacher by March 28th. This will provide your family time to make academic decisions with your child.
You will have an opportunity to meet the middle school principal and staff during an evening event, which will be scheduled toward the end of the school year. You will receive an invitation in the mail with the details. You will also have the ability to attend the meeting for both middle schools, if you so choose, as they will be scheduled on separate evenings.
School visits will be scheduled toward the end of May for students to meet with the principal and staff. They will also be touring the school and have an opportunity to have their many questions answered as they prepare for their next step in their educational experience.
