Dave Quackenbush is the Lead Teacher and teaches Humanities, Phys Ed. and Band at the High School Learning Center. Dave has been with the school since it opened in 2003 and was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee that designed the school. Dave has an A.A.S. in Liberal Arts from Corning Community College, a B.S. in Secondary Education/Social Studies and an M.S. in Education from Elmira College and has completed administrative coursework for both School District and School Building Leadership through SUNY Brockport.

Liz Cristofaro, English

Liz Cristofaro has been teaching English Language Arts at the High School Learning Center since 2008. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from SUNY Albany and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Rochester. She completed her Post-Baccalaureate requirements for Secondary Teacher Certification at Elmira College. She completed her student teaching at East High School, where she first learned about the High School Learning Center. Before working for the Corning School District, she was a program director at P.S. 92 in Brooklyn for several years. In her spare time Liz loves to read, play cards, and spend time with friends and family. She also has an affinity for reality television (sad, but true). Liz loves working at the HSLC because she gets to spend time with people she cares about everyday, and teach a subject about which she is truly passionate.

Monica Schnurle, Math

Monica has been teaching math at the HSLC since July 2017. She received her BS in Mathematics and minor in education from St. Bonaventure University in 1995.  She then received her MS in Education with a minor in Special Education from Alfred University in 1998.  Monica has been teaching middle school math at CFA, then the current middle school since September 2004, but she started her teaching career in 1998.  Monica has 2 dogs, Eli & Manning (yes, she is a die hard NY Giants fan), and 2 cats, Jacks and Junior, and has rescued a few feral cats and kittens.  In her free time Monica enjoys doing anything outdoors, during any season: planting and maintaining flower beds and vegetable gardens, walking with the dogs, fishing the Finger Lakes, traveling to Ohio and Florida to see family.  Monica feels very fortunate to be a part of the High School Learning Center, and the close knit environment and family that has been created.  She has always believed students can be more successful when they are a part/stakeholder of their education in a positive, supportive and small environment.

Lauren Frazer, Science

Lauren Frazer has been teaching Science at the High School Learning Center since 2014. However, she has been an employee in the Corning-Painted Post School District since 1998, previously teaching 7th and 8th grade sciences. Lauren grew up in Corning and was a student at Severn, CFA and graduated from East High School in 1994. After graduating, she attended SUNY Geneseo for 4 years exploring the sciences and ultimately graduating with dual teaching certificates in Education:  K-6 and Biology 7-12. She got a job at CFA right after graduation and then completed her Master’s Degree at Elmira College in 2003. Lauren has been involved in many aspects of school life from being a track coach and Student Council Advisor to holding several positions on school committees. She is very involved and always looking for ways to get her students to be motivated to learn and passionate about life. For this reason, she and the HSLC are a great fit.  Lauren is looking forward to many wonderful years as a teacher at the High School Learning Center and loves going to work every day
