Rigor - It's Elementary.
Rigor in teaching and learning is the District's standard for making sure that all students master the fundamental skills they need to proceed with learning and succeed in life. THE most elementary skill needed to enable further learning is reading.

Relevance - It's A Natural Motivator.
Experts agree that establishing Relevance -- among subjects and between school-based learning and life outside the classroom -- is a key strategy for motivating and engaging students. When students see connections between subjects and between school and life, they are better able to apply academic skills in other settings. The application of skills is viewed as a core requirement for success in today's world.

Student Reading material teaches Science and Social Studies standards.

Each selection provides opportunities for students to dig deeper, learn more and relate stories to their own experience. Questioning and critical thinking are incorporated into weekly learning routines.
