Change Takes Time
The changes we have made between 2002 and 2007 to improve instruction and learning for all C-PP students are an investment in our future. Improvements put in place today will most benefit our youngest students as they progress through our educational systems.
Those who may be anxious for quick results (i.e., improved test scores) from our student achievement initiatives should remember that the District is driving sweeping changes through C-PP's 15 school sites. While tremendous progress has been made, the impact of changes in the academic environment take years to manifest as curricular design changes are conceived and implemented throughout the entire school system.
The emphasis on Rigor, Relevance and Relationships at every grade level has teachers and students focused in the precise areas that can help students reach their potential. Student learning strengthens over time -- and performance measures will likewise improve gradually -- in response to this intensified focus. All who are maintaining a watchful eye on performance trends should be patient, as it may take a few years for significant improvement in test scores to materialize. At the same time, everyone should keep in mind that test scores are only one measure of student success.
