Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) hspace=0

SUPA allows C-PP students to get a head start in college by enrolling in Syracuse University (SU) courses, through a partnership program between the university and East and West High Schools. Syracuse is the only private university in the Northeast accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).

For more information, visit SU's Project Advance Web pages.

Student eligibility Course offerings are normally restricted to high school seniors. However, students in their junior year are sometimes allowed to enroll with approval from the appropriate Project Advance administrator and University faculty coordinator. Guidance counselors can provide more information about qualifications for enrollment.

Courses offered The following SUPA courses will be offered at East and West High Schools in the 2008-2009 school year:

Sociology, Public Affairs, Calculus AB, Psychology, Economics, Forensics

hspace=0Tuition and grading SUPA students pay SU tuition and receive a transcript for credit earned at successful course completion. SUPA tuition is based on the number of credits designated for the course(s) selected. Students registering for a full-year, two-semester course must pay tuition in full by the fall-semester payment due date. Courses offered through this extended campus program are the same as those taught to freshmen and sophomores on the main Syracuse University campus. However, the partnership with the high school allows for more than a 75% discount per credit hour of tuition as compared to traditional part-time SU students.

Students who pay Syracuse University tuition and are enrolled in courses through SUPA normally receive both high school and college credit for the courses. The college grade is determined by the standards used on the SU campus.

Teacher requirements SUPA courses are taught by high school teachers who have completed graduate seminars in their subject areas and been named adjunct instructors at SU. Project Advance also provides in-service training and professional development for high school instructors, a continuing forum for communication between high school instructors and university professors, and extensive ongoing research and evaluation for the systematic improvement of education.

Examinations Final examinations are not typically provided by the university; rather, they are prepared and graded by local teachers.

College Credit and process Paying Syracuse University tuition and passing a SUPA course guarantees credit at Syracuse University. In addition, Syracuse transfer credits are accepted at many of the colleges frequently chosen by C-PP graduates, depending on their individual transfer credit policy and process. Students will receive a grade report showing credits and grades earned following each semester, and must request a transcript from SU be sent to their selected college.

Transcripts There is no charge to request a transcript. Transcript requests are processed in the order they are received. Download a transcript request form.
