Advanced Placement (AP)

East and West High Schools offer several college-level AP courses. Through the College Board's AP exams, C-PP students may earn credit or advanced standing at many colleges and universities. AP courses vary widely from high school to high school across the country. For more information on the program and AP offerings, visit College Board's Advanced Placement Web pages.

Courses offered The following AP courses will be offered at East and West High Schools in the 2008-2009 school year:

World History (10th grade), Calculus BC, English (10th grade), Statistics

Fees C-PP students who choose to take an AP exam during the 2007-2008 school year are responsible for paying the fee for the exam. Beginning in 2008-2009, the Corning-Painted Post Area School District will pay for any necessary AP fees or materials, including the cost of the AP examinations, which students will be required to take for successful completion of an AP course in which they've enrolled.

Teacher requirements While there is no formal training process for AP teachers, they must submit two documents related to their courses to the College Board: the subject-specific AP Course Audit form and a course syllabus. This requirement was implemented by the College Board in 2007 to enhance the program's consistency across high schools nationwide.

Examinations A high school student does not have to be enrolled in an AP course in order to take the AP exam in a particular subject area, but a qualifying exam grade is required to receive college credit. Beginning in 2008-2009, C-PP students enrolled in any AP course will be required to sit for the exam to successfully complete the course.

College Credit and Process College credit is granted for passing AP exam scores at the discretion of colleges and universities, and students are advised to contact their college of choice for their specific policy on AP.

The College Board provides a variety of additional tips and resources for college-bound students, including action plans for juniors and seniors, a scholarship search engine, an online AP Credit Policy search engine and a College MatchMaker search engine that will help you find colleges that match your needs and interests.

Transcripts When students complete an AP exam, they identify the college(s) that should receive the resulting AP Grade Report. If a student does not indicate an institution to receive his or her score at the time of examination, transcripts may be requested at a cost of $20 each by using the online transcript request form.

The College Board also provides a range of additional grade reporting services.
