Accelerated College Education (ACE)
ACE is a concurrent high school and college enrollment program which lets students earn Corning Community College (CCC) credit while taking classes at East and West High Schools. Through this partnership with our local community college, students pay CCC tuition and receive a transcript for credit earned at successful completion of the course. For more information, visit Corning Community College's Web pages.
ACE - Frequently Asked Questions
Courses offered The following ACE courses will be offered at East and West High Schools in the 2008-2009 school year:
French, Spanish, Perspectives of Alcohol, AutoCAD, CAD
Student Eligibility ACE is for high school juniors and seniors who have a strong academic background (i.e. B high school average). However, ACE instructors can recommend students who may not meet the minimum high school average but who the instructor feels can handle the college-level work required by the course. Students must meet the prerequisites for the course as described in the college catalog.
Tuition and grading Through this partnership with our community college, high school students pay CCC tuition and receive a transcript for credit earned at successful completion of the course. All students are billed an in-state tuition charge of $33.00 per credit hour. ACE students must register by August 1 for the Fall semester (tuition due in September) and by December 1 for the Spring semester (tuition due in January), and are required to obtain a Certificate of Residency from the county where they live. Students can withdraw from a course and incur no financial obligation by filling out a drop slip and sending the form to the college Registrar by the given deadline.
Teacher requirements Participating ACE teachers must earn certification through CCC as adjunct instructors to teach approved courses. ACE faculty are responsible for using the MYCCC Web site to ensure their class rosters are accurate and complete, as well as for entering final grades at the end of the semester.
Examinations Final examinations for ACE courses are not typically provided by CCC; rather, they are prepared and graded by the high school teachers.
College Credit and process Paying ACE tuition and passing an ACE course guarantees credit at Corning Community College. In addition, ACE courses will generally be accepted for credit by two- or four-year State University of New York (SUNY) schools. In addition, over 500 other colleges and universities have indicated that they will accept CCC credit.
Transcripts There is no charge to request a transcript. ACE students can log into their pipeline account to request a printed transcript.
