International Baccalaureate Program in the C-PP District Middle Years Program - Diploma Program - College Prep The IB programs offered in C-PP's middle and high schools reflect our vision for educational excellence by helping students develop critical thinking skills (Rigor), understand the connections between subjects and with the "real world" (Relevance), and collaborate with others (Relationships). Corning Free Academy, Northside Blodgett Middle School, and East and West High Schools are officially designated as IB "World Schools," and we are proud to be the first and only school district in New York State to offer this world-class educational curriculum to all secondary students. In May 2008, East and West were named to Newsweek's annual list of "America's Top Public High Schools" primarily because they offer IB. The IB Middle Years Program is the foundation of our curriculum for all students in grades 6-10. C-PP high school juniors and seniors have the option to enroll in the IB Diploma Program, choosing either to pursue the full IB diploma, or rigorous individual courses for deeper learning. College credit for IB courses is available from most colleges and universities. IB has a strong presence in the United States. In fact, 37% of all IB schools worldwide are located in the U.S. and 91% of those are public schools. Right now, the U.S. government is investing $124 million to increase the number of students in IB programs, with a goal of having 1.5 million enrolled by 2012. IB is fully aligned with the New York State standards. In fact, IB exams are one of only two variances allowed by the NYS Board of Regents. This means students who pass IB exams do not have to take Regents, although most students choose to take both. A quick review of these pages will help you understand the many advantages offered by the IB programs.
