Goal of the Week

What is the Goal of the Week?  The Goal of the Week is a yearlong program that involves having a different, school-wide goal each week of the year.  Each goal will be introduced during the announcements on Monday morning, and then mentioned every morning for the rest of the week.

Is that all?  No.  Teachers are provided with ideas for discussion that go along with each goal.  These “mini-lessons” can take just 3 – 5 minutes at the beginning of the day.  Individual teachers may decide to spend more time on topics that are of particular interest to their class.

What kinds of things will the Goal of the Week Cover?  Goals for the Goal of the Week Program fall under one or more of the following topics:  School Readiness, Life Safety, Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Kindness, Friendship and Manners.

Is it hard to get information from your child about their day at school?  Ask them about the Goal of the Week!  Ask them what it means, why it’s important and when they can use it.  Model it for them, practice it together, and notice and praise them when they do it on their own.  Together…we can make a difference!

Our “Welcome” assembly, held during the first week of school, included an overview of the Goal of the Week Program, along with the introduction of  our school wide, year long goal: Always Do The Right Thing.   (Start with your thumb, and say one word for each finger.)  Each classroom received a small poster to help remind the students of our “Give Me Five” goal.  We will refer to our school wide goal periodically throughout the year.  Referring to it at home, as well, will reinforce the principle and the home~school connection.
