Eastern Star Newspaper, Advisor: Ms. Keuhn

The Eastern Star is a student-run newspaper that was created in September of 2003. Many people have come together for this project. We, as a staff, decided to take it one stop further by having it on the Internet. This is an excellent opportunity to combine writing and technology to obtain valuable experiences for the future.

The Eastern Star group meets in the Library every Wednesday at 3PM after school. They discuss what will be in the next paper and when it will be associated deadlines. The editor of the paper is Stephanie R. Williams. Please join us!

The Friends of Rachel Club, Advisors: Mrs. Decker, Mrs. Deiseroth, Mrs. Picarazzi

This purpose of this club is to motivate and equip students to embrace new values of kindness and compassion within our school through group projects. We meet twice per month in room 800. Please listen to morning announcements for the next meeting date.

Interact Club, Advisor: Ms. Patterson

Interact Club is a student-run program whereby students interact with the community via the local Corning Rotary Club. Students engage in community service projects such as the Wine Glass Marathon, Sparkle of Christmas, Food Drives, and Blood Drives. Interact encourages teamwork and organization, while providing a safe environment where students can get involved. If interested, stop by the library any Thursday morning at 7:30; anyone and everyone is welcome!

Key/Kiwanis Club, Advisor: Mr. Dwyer

Key Club is a club that helps our community. They assist the elderly, help take care of the environment, and they help with special events. Key Club runs from October through May each year. If you are interested in investing in your community, please join us!

Lacrosse Club, Advisor: Mr. Streeten

This club consists of mostly lacrosse players from both the boys’ and the girls’ team, but is open for anyone to join. They do not meet at a set time weekly, instead they meet six times per year, and times for their meetings are announced throughout the school year.

Throughout the year there are contests for members and prizes vary from lacrosse equipment to apparel. The Lacrosse Club has fundraisers for their trips and a banquet at the end of the year. One of their trips is to the Syracuse Carrier Dome to watch a men’s college lacrosse game. In order to raise money to go on this trip, each member must sell advertisement space for sponsors in the yearly lacrosse club book. Joining the Lacrosse Club is a worth-while commitment and experience.

Logos Yearbook Club, Advisor: Mr. Miller

Logos is East High's Yearbook Club. Each year, this club works closely with students and staff to create the best rendition of the East High yearbook possible. Members have the opportunity to work with many different software programs and the latest photographic equipment. The yearbook project is a collaborative effort and students learn the valuable skill of teamwork while having fun.

Meet & Make a Difference (M & M Club), Advisor: Ms. Ward

It is a club that has the interests of new students and others in mind.  For those looking for a fun and relaxed opportunity to get together with friends or to make new ones.  To chat, do organized activities, do homework, listen to music, etc. This Club offers a unique setting to share thoughts and ideas from everyday life, to looking at topics such as violence in school, bullying and being left-out.  The Club reaches out to those that "want something else".  The Club will have periodical goals created by the interests and concerns of the members, in an attempt to develop ideas and thoughts to enhance student life.

National Honor Society, Advisor: Ms. Ryan

To become involved with the NHS, students need to fill out an application, write an essay, send in a résumé and have above an 88 average for the overall marking period. All paperwork is then submitted to the faculty. Staff members then give recommendations on students. A vote is then held whether or not to accept or decline them. An induction ceremony is held in the auditorium in the spring.
There are four qualities that are needed to be in NHS:

  1. Leadership
  2. Service
  3. Academic
  4. Character

Recycling Club, Advisor: Ms. Baker

The Recycling Club meets each Tuesday to discuss and act on issues affecting our environment. If you'd like to do your part in taking care of our environment, join us!

Sign Language, Advisor: Ms. Goodsell

Sign Language is a universal language. Instead of words, we use our hands. If you're considering working with or educating children in the future, learning sign language could give you an edge over another job candidate. It's fun, and it will open up a whole new world of communication to you. We meet each Wednesday in the Media Center.

Student Council, Advisor: Ms. Harris

The purpose of this club is to build leadership qualities in our members and to help govern our school community. We help organize special events and assist in fundraising to help defray costs associated with them. Student Council meetings are announced during the school day.
