Curriculum Matrices

The C-PP Area School District’s curriculum is aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, which represent the core of what all students should know, understand and be able to do as a result of their schooling. The curriculum is also aligned with the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) and International Baccalaureate (IB), as appropriate. The new CCLS were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators and experts. Their mission is to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help our students. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success. Standards are reviewed, assessed and revised by C-PP departments and grade levels on an on-going basis.

C-PP K-5, ELA (English Language Arts) and math teams worked hard during the summer of 2014 to develop curriculum that would meet the rigor and expectations of the CCLS and the needs of our students, teachers, parents and community.   Regardless of which of the six elementary buildings a student attends, the curriculum requirements and curriculum implementation plan are the same.  This plan, the timeframes, topics, tools, models, standards assessed and the common assessments that will be administered can be accessed on our Elementary Matrix for both ELA and math.  The topics and timeframes for science and social studies can also be viewed on the matrices. 

C-PP instructional teams in all subject areas in grades 6 through 12 have worked hard the last few years aligning curriculum across grade level and schools. Curriculum alignment brings many benefits, primarily: common ownership and understanding of what must be taught and learned at each grade level for each subject area, as well as district-wide standardization. No matter where a student attends school, the curriculum requirements are the same across buildings, grade levels and classrooms. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to document the District’s curriculum in a format that is readily available for reference by teaching staff, administrators, parents and even students.
