College Level Courses

Choosing one or more college-level courses can give students a competitive edge in the college search and selection process. C-PP now offers more college level courses and choices for high school students than ever before. Before IB was implemented, there were only 15 such courses to choose from and today, the District offers 35. In December 2007, the C-PP Board of Education approved the addition of new courses for 2008-2009, expanding the number to nearly 40.

In order to meet the needs of as many C-PP students and possible, East and West High Schools offer college-level courses to hard working students at varying levels of difficulty from IB, Advanced Placement (AP), Syracuse University Project Advanced (SUPA) and Accelerated College Education(ACE). College credit is granted for AP, SUPA, ACE and IB at the discretion of colleges and universities with the following exceptions:

Ø passing an ACE course guarantees credit at Corning Community College

Ø passing a SUPA course guarantees credit at Syracuse University

Advanced Placement

Because they are not standardized, AP courses vary widely from high school to high school across the country. Historically, students pay for their own AP exams and are not required to take them, so many students opt out of the final assessment. In an effort to maximize the impact of the AP courses, C-PP will require students to take the standardized AP examination for successful completion of any AP courses offered by the District. Students are advised to contact their college of choice for their specific policy on AP.

To help guide our high school students through the process of selecting the college level coursework that best matches their future goals and abilities, C-PP has developed informational Web content and brochure.
