MYP Personal Project

All C-PP students will complete a Personal Project in 10th grades as a culminating component of the MYP program. Students will be introduced to the project in 9th grade through their ATL class.

At the end of the Freshman year, they will choose their own topic. The Personal Project is completed outside of class during the first semester of the tenth grade, and students may begin work over the summer before tenth grade if they wish.  Each student will work with an adult mentor. Mentors may be teachers, family members, friends or community members. Students who cannot find a mentor on their own will be assisted in finding one.

Students may choose to write a report, prepare a PowerPoint® presentation, build a model or create a work of art – there are many options. The student and his or her mentor will work together to agree on a format that allows the student to demonstrate what they know in a way that best suits his or her learning style while meeting the MYP requirements.

Personal Project skills are developed and honed in the Freshman Academy, as students work together on a group Community Service project. Through the process of completing the project, students learn how to demonstrate the essential skills, which are taught within a framework of seven criteria: Planning and Development, Collection of Information, Choice and Application of Techniques, Analysis of Information, Organization of Written Work, Analysis of Process and Outcome, and Personal Engagement.

C-PP students who enter 10th grade in fall 2008 will be the first class to complete the full five years of the MYP, and will be the first class eligible to complete the Personal Project and earn the MYP Certificate.

Links to relevant forms, deadlines and examples will be added to this site as they become available. For more information regarding the Personal Project, contact the MYP Coordinator.
