International Baccalaureate Organization The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation. The original objective was to provide a rigorous, consistent high school education for the children of diplomats and others who frequently moved internationally. The IB Diploma Program was created to fulfill that purpose. Since then, the IBO’s mission has expanded, and it now makes an IB education available to students of all ages. IBO is funded by fees from participating schools, income from workshops, sales of IB materials and donations. There are four regional offices around the world, including IB North America (IBNA) in New York, NY. The regional offices work closely with IB schools to provide support, training, resources and assistance with student assessments. The IB philosophy and mission promotes intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity, but as an essential part of life in the 21st century. There are three distinct IB programs: Ø the Primary Years Program for grades Pre-K through 5 Ø the Middle Years Program for grades 6 through 10 and Ø the Diploma Program for grades 11 and 12 Currently, C-PP is in the process of implementing the Middle Years and Diploma Programs in all four of our middle and high school buildings. |
